Superintendents Welcome

By Danny Denton

October 09, 2007

WELCOME. Thank you for your interest in Winfield ISD.

Winfield is a TEA Recognized District for the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 School Years. The attendance rate is 97.2%. For the first time, there are two Kindergarten classes at Winfield ISD this year. Our elementary is growing and the school board is considering adding a PreK program. However, we do not have extra rooms. Therefore, the school board is considering building a new PreK-5 facility to address growing elementary enrollment and adding a PreK program.

My educational philosophy is that Every Child Can Learn. It becomes the responsibility of the school system to create conditions under which every child is provided the best possible environment for learning. That environment must be rich with opportunities for every child to participate fully with the confidence that he or she will always be treated with respect by his or her fellow students and by the staff of the school district. Providing students with a learning environment in which they feel safe and confident to assume an active role in the learning process is our number one priority at Winfield ISD for administrators, teachers, and staff. The School Board is supportive through their creation of policies that reinforce the belief that every child can learn and the belief that it is the responsibility of the school district to create the learning environment to support and encourage learning that does not leave any child behind.

Underlying the premise that every child can learn is the belief that students learn in different ways and at different rates. The teacher sets up conditions in the classroom that allow for these differences and supports the efforts of his or her students. A teacher recognizes the diversity of the students in the classroom and builds on the strengths that this diversity provides in terms of learning opportunities for all students. The teachers seek out the strengths of his or her students and the principal builds on the strengths of his staff members.

In an effective school system, learning is continuous not just for the students but for everyone in the system. The staff of the district will continue to improve their skills through well designed professional development activities. Part of the continual improvement process for our school system is to make certain that the curriculum is aligned to the goals of the school district and to the assessment system of the state.

Working together, the staff of Winfield ISD and the citizens of the community of Winfield can build an effective school system that every child can learn. In working together, decisions will be based on what is best for the students.

You will find that I am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ALWAYS!!!!!!!!!!!! FOR CHILDREN!!!!!!!!!!!!
